A few years ago, Santa gave me a notepad of Pro/Con lists. It was meant as a joke, but I cherished those pages, makings lists for any and every decision I had to make from what gym to join to what apartment to rent with Justin after we got married. Sadly, I have used the last of the blessed pages, but that hasn't stopped me from listing my way to decisions!
Blogs have been around for a long time. I never seriously considered writing one until the king of all social networks had its way with me. It all started when I came across a blog link posted on a friend-of-a-friend's Facebook page and found myself reading it. I mean, really reading it. Fully engaged and encouraged by what I had read, I decided to revisite that site a few weeks later, only to have the same results. That's when it hit me--why just be a bystander--a paralyzed wisher and hoper--rather than a doer and risker. Honestly, what am I waiting for? So...I decided to do what I do best...list it out. And the pro/con list looked a bit like this:
Reasons NOT to start a blog:
1. Fear of the bandwagon
2. Creative inadequacy
3. Lack of an audience
4. Fear of commitment
Reasons TO start a blog
1. Practice what I preach in the classroom
2. The thrill of finding the perfect word when writing to express myself
3. Use my time, talent, and treasure to further God's Kingdom
4. Alternative to reality TV shows
Eventually, the pro list began to shine brighter than the con. So, here I am. My heart is now internetly on my sleeve.
Is it possible to call shotgun on a bandwagon that's already in motion?
